42:1___When_Jacob_learned_that_there_was_grain_in_Egypt，_he_said_to_his_sons，_“Why_do_you_just_keep_looking_at_each_other?“
以色列打听到埃及有粮食出售，就对一众儿子说：“你们不必在家里大眼瞪小眼了。”
42:2___He_continued，_“I_have_heard_that_there_is_grain_in_Egypt。_Go_down_there_and_buy_some_for_us，_so_that_we_may_live_and_not_die。“
以色列说：“我听说埃及能买到粮食，你们马上南下，去埃及购买粮食，这样我们就不用被饿死了。”
42:3___Then_ten_of_Joseph＇s_brothers_went_down_to_buy_grain_from_Egypt。
约瑟的十个哥哥就起程南下，去埃及去购买粮食。
42:4___But_Jacob_did_not_send_Benjamin，_Joseph＇s_brother，_with_the_others，_because_he_was_afraid_that_harm_might_come_to_him。
约瑟的弟弟便雅悯留在家里，没有与他们同行，因为以色列担心他会遇到不测。
42:5___So_Israel＇s_sons_were_among_those_who_went_to_buy_grain，_for_the_famine_was_in_the_land_of_Canaan_also。
当时，饥荒蔓延了整个迦南，约瑟的哥哥们随着购买粮食的人群，去到埃及。
42:6___Now_Joseph_was_the_governor_of_the_land，_the_one_who_sold_grain_to_all_its_people。_So_when_Joseph＇s_brothers_arrived，_they_bowed_down_to_him_with_their_faces_to_the_ground。
约瑟是埃及宰相，负责一切卖粮的事情。
约瑟的哥哥们来到他身前，伏地跪拜。
42:7___As_soon_as_Joseph_saw_his_brothers，_he_recognized_them，_but_he_pretended_to_be_a_stranger_and_spoke_harshly_to_them。_“Where_do_you_come_from?“_he_asked。_“From_the_land_of_Canaan，“_they_replied，_“to_buy_food。“
约瑟一看他们，就马上认了出来，然而他假装不认识，严厉的问他们：“你们来自哪里？”
约瑟的哥哥们回答：“我们来自迦南，到这里购买粮食。”
42:8___Although_Joseph_recognized_his_brothers，_they_did_not_recognize_him。
虽然约瑟认出了他的哥哥们，但是他的哥哥们却没有能认出约瑟。
42:9___Then_he_remembered_his_dreams_about_them_and_said_to_them，_“You_are_spies!_You_have_come_to_see_where_our_land_is_unprotected。“
这时，约瑟想起了他少年时所做的那两个梦，就对他们说：“你们是探子，你们是来这里查探防御状况的！”
42:10__“No，_my_lord，“_they_answered。_“Your_servants_have_come_to_buy_food。
约瑟的哥哥们说：“我们不是探子。尊贵的大人，我们只是来这里购买粮食。”
42:11__We_are_all_the_sons_of_one_man。_Your_servants_are_honest_men，_not_spies。“
“我们十个都是兄弟，我们都是诚实守法的良民，不是探子。”
42:12__“No!“_he_said_to_them。_“You_have_come_to_see_where_our_land_is_unprotected。“
约瑟说：“你们是探子，你们是来查探这里的防御状况。”
42:13__But_they_replied，_“Your_servants_were_twelve_brothers，_the_sons_of_one_man，_who_lives_in_the_land_of_Canaan。_The_youngest_is_now_with_our_father，_and_one_is_no_more。“
约瑟的哥哥们说：“我们的父亲住在迦南，我们一共有十二个兄弟，其中一个已经不在了，最小的弟弟跟着父亲留在家里。”
42:14__Joseph_said_to_them，_“It_is_just_as_I_told_you:_You_are_spies!
约瑟说：“正如我之前所说的，你们是探子！”
42:15__And_this_is_how_you_will_be_tested:_As_surely_as_Pharaoh_lives，_you_will_not_leave_this_place_unless_your_youngest_brother_comes_here。
“你们若不能把那最小的弟弟带到这里，证明你们所说的话，我以法老的性命发誓，你们休想离开这里。”
42:16__Send_one_of_your_number_to_get_your_brother;_the_rest_of_you_will_be_kept_in_prison，_so_that_your_words_may_be_tested_to_see_if_you_are_telling_the_truth。_If_you_are_not，_then_as_surely_as_Pharaoh_lives，_you_are_spies!“
“你们派一个人回去，把那最小的弟弟带来这里，其他的人暂时关押到监狱里。”
“除非你们那最小的弟弟，能证实你们所说的话。否则，我以法老的性命起誓，你们一定是探子。”
42:17__And_he_put_them_all_in_custody_for_three_days。
约瑟把哥哥们关到监狱，囚禁了三天。
42:18__On_the_third_day，_Joseph_said_to_them，_“Do_this_and_you_will_live，_for_I_fear_God:
到了第三天，约瑟去见他们，说：“我是敬畏上帝的人，你们若是能按我所说的去做，就可以保全生命。”
42:19__If_you_are_honest_men，_let_one_of_your_brothers_stay_here_in_prison，_while_the_rest_of_you_go_and_take_grain_back_for_your_starving_households。
“为了证明你们确实是诚实守法的良民，你们须留下一人在监狱，其他的人就带着粮食回去，解救家中的饥荒。”
42:20__But_you_must_bring_your_youngest_brother_to_me，_so_that_your_words_may_be_verified_and_that_you_may_not_die。“_This_they_proceeded_to_do。
“但是，你们必须要把那最小的弟弟带来这里，以证实你们所说的话，如果一切属实，你们就不会被处死。”
约瑟的哥哥们无计可施，只能按照他说的去做。
42:21__They_said_to_one_another，_“Surely_we_are_being_punished_because_of_our_brother。_We_saw_how_distressed_he_was_when_he_pleaded_with_us_for_his_life，_but_we_would_not_listen;_that＇s_why_this_distress_has_come_upon_us。“
他们彼此说：“昔日我们加害自己的弟弟，听着他的哭号和哀求，我们无动于衷，现在遭受报应了。”
42:22__Reuben_replied，_“Didn＇t_I_tell_you_not_to_sin_against_the_boy?_But_you_wouldn＇t_listen!_Now_we_must_give_an_accounting_for_his_blood。“
流便说：“我当初劝阻你们，不要加害那孩子，你们就是不听，现在我们要偿还那血债了。”
42:23__They_did_not_realize_that_Joseph_could_understand_them，_since_he_was_using_an_interpreter。
他们不知道约瑟能听懂他们的对话，因为他们与约瑟的对话，一直都是通过传译人员来翻译的。
42:24__He_turned_away_from_them_and_began_to_weep，_but_then_turned_back_and_spoke_to_them_again。_He_had_Simeon_taken_from_them_and_bound_before_their_eyes。
约瑟听了他们的对话，转身走出去，大哭了一场。
约瑟再次来到他们身前，在他们当中挑出了西缅，当着哥哥们的面绑个结实。
42:25__Joseph_gave_orders_to_fill_their_bags_with_grain，_to_put_each_man＇s_silver_back_in_his_sack，_and_to_give_them_provisions_for_their_journey。_After_this_was_done_for_them，
约瑟吩咐下属，把粮食装满他哥哥们带来的麻袋，他们用来购买粮食的钱银，放回各自的麻袋里，另外，还要送给他们回程中需要的食物。
下属遵照约瑟的吩咐，一一办好了。
42:26__they_loaded_their_grain_on_their_donkeys_and_left。
约瑟的哥哥们把装满粮食的麻袋负在驴背上，就离开了。
42:27__At_the_place_where_they_stopped_for_the_night_one_of_them_opened_his_sack_to_get_feed_for_his_donkey，_and_he_saw_his_silver_in_the_mouth_of_his_sack。
在晚上歇息时，其中一人打开麻袋，要取饲料喂食驴子。
他发现自己的用来购买粮食的钱银，完好无缺的放在麻袋里。
42:28__“My_silver_has_been_returned，“_he_said_to_his_brothers。_“Here_it_is_in_my_sack。“_Their_hearts_sank_and_they_turned_to_each_other_trembling_and_said，_“What_is_this_that_God_has_done_to_us?“
他对其它的兄弟说：“我的钱银又回来了，它就在我的麻袋里。”
他们心中都是一沉，彼此惊惶失措的说：“上帝啊，这到底发生了什么事情？”
42:29__When_they_came_to_their_father_Jacob_in_the_land_of_Canaan，_they_told_him_all_that_had_happened_to_them。_They_said，
约瑟的哥哥们回到迦南的家中，对以色列讲述了所发生的事情。
他们说：
42:30__“The_man_who_is_lord_over_the_land_spoke_harshly_to_us_and_treated_us_as_though_we_were_spying_on_the_land。
“埃及的宰相对我们很严厉，指责我们是前去查探防务的探子。”
42:31__But_we_said_to_him，_＇We_are_honest_men;_we_are_not_spies。
“我们坚决否认，说‘我们是诚实守法的良民，不是探子。’”
42:32__We_were_twelve_brothers，_sons_of_one_father。_One_is_no_more，_and_the_youngest_is_now_with_our_father_in_Canaan。＇
“‘我们一共有十二个兄弟，是同一个父亲所生的。其中一个已经不在了，最小的弟弟随父亲留在迦南家中。’”
42:33__“Then_the_man_who_is_lord_over_the_land_said_to_us，_＇This_is_how_I_will_know_whether_you_are_honest_men:_Leave_one_of_your_brothers_here_with_me，_and_take_food_for_your_starving_households_and_go。
“那埃及宰相对我们说，‘为了证明你们确实是诚实守法的良民，你们必须留下一人在监狱里，其他的人就带着粮食回去，解救家中的饥荒。’”
42:34__But_bring_your_youngest_brother_to_me_so_I_will_know_that_you_are_not_spies_but_honest_men。_Then_I_will_give_your_brother_back_to_you，_and_you_can_trade_in_the_land。＇“
“‘但是，你们必须要把那最小的弟弟带来这里，以证实你们确实是诚实守法的良民，而不是探子。’”
“‘如此一来，我就会释放你的兄弟，并允许你们在埃及自由往来。’”
42:35__As_they_were_emptying_their_sacks，_there_in_each_man＇s_sack_was_his_pouch_of_silver!_When_they_and_their_father_saw_the_money_pouches，_they_were_frightened。
约瑟的哥哥们说完，就把粮食从麻袋里倒出来，发现各人的钱袋都好端端的放在麻袋里。
他们和以色列都惊惶起来。
42:36__Their_father_Jacob_said_to_them，_“You_have_deprived_me_of_my_children。_Joseph_is_no_more_and_Simeon_is_no_more，_and_now_you_want_to_take_Benjamin。_Everything_is_against_me!“
以色列对一众儿子说：“你们难道要令我失去所有的儿子吗？”
“我已经失去了约瑟，失去了西缅，现在你们又要带走便雅悯！这些不幸的事情为何总是发生在我身上？”
42:37__Then_Reuben_said_to_his_father，_“You_may_put_both_of_my_sons_to_death_if_I_do_not_bring_him_back_to_you。_Entrust_him_to_my_care，_and_I_will_bring_him_back。“
流便对以色列说：“你把弟弟交给我吧。”
“我的两个儿子就陪伴在你身边，我若是不能带弟弟平安返回，你可以杀掉我的两个儿子来泄愤。”
42:38__But_Jacob_said，_“My_son_will_not_go_down_there_with_you;_his_brother_is_dead_and_he_is_the_only_one_left。_If_harm_comes_to_him_on_the_journey_you_are_taking，_you_will_bring_my_gray_head_down_to_the_grave_in_sorrow。“
以色列说：“我不会让你带走便雅悯的。”
“他的哥哥死了，现在只剩下他一个人了，如果他在路途上遇到什么不测，我已是白发苍苍的老人，再无法面对那种悲惨了！”
