38:1___At_that_time，_Judah_left_his_brothers_and_went_down_to_stay_with_a_man_of_Adullam_named_Hirah。
过了不久，犹大独自离家南下，寄住在亚杜兰人希拉的家中。
38:2___There_Judah_met_the_daughter_of_a_Canaanite_man_named_Shua。_He_married_her_and_lay_with_her;
犹大在那里遇到了一个迦南女子，名叫书亚。
犹大娶她为妻子。
38:3___she_became_pregnant_and_gave_birth_to_a_son，_who_was_named_Er。
书亚怀孕生下一个儿子，取名为珥。
38:4___She_conceived_again_and_gave_birth_to_a_son_and_named_him_Onan。
不久，书亚生下第二个儿子，取名为俄南。
38:5___She_gave_birth_to_still_another_son_and_named_him_Shelah。_It_was_at_Kezib_that_she_gave_birth_to_him。
犹大后来迁徙到基悉，书亚又生下第三个儿子，取名为示拉。
38:6___Judah_got_a_wife_for_Er，_his_firstborn，_and_her_name_was_Tamar。
犹大给他的长子珥娶了一个妻子，名叫他玛。
38:7___But_Er，_Judah＇s_firstborn，_was_wicked_in_the_LORD＇S_sight;_so_the_LORD_put_him_to_death。
然而，犹大的长子珥，生性邪恶，不久就被耶和华诛杀了。
38:8___Then_Judah_said_to_Onan，_“Lie_with_your_brother＇s_wife_and_fulfill_your_duty_to_her_as_a_brother-in-law_to_produce_offspring_for_your_brother。“
珥死后，犹大对俄南说：“你要去跟你的嫂子同房，尽弟弟的义务，为你的哥哥留下子裔。”
（注：希伯来人旧俗，兄长若是早亡，弟弟要与寡嫂同房，为兄长生子立后）
38:9___But_Onan_knew_that_the_offspring_would_not_be_his;_so_whenever_he_lay_with_his_brother＇s_wife，_he_spilled_his_semen_on_the_ground_to_keep_from_producing_offspring_for_his_brother。
俄南知道，他和嫂子所生下的子裔，是属于哥哥的。
因此，俄南每次与嫂子同房，都将****喷洒在地上，免得给自己的哥哥留下后代。
38:10__What_he_did_was_wicked_in_the_LORD＇S_sight;_so_he_put_him_to_death_also。
在耶和华的眼里，这种行为是非常邪恶的，于是俄南也被诛杀了。
38:11__Judah_then_said_to_his_daughter-in-law_Tamar，_“Live_as_a_widow_in_your_father＇s_house_until_my_son_Shelah_grows_up。“_For_he_thought，_“He_may_die_too，_just_like_his_brothers。“_So_Tamar_went_to_live_in_her_father＇s_house。
犹大对儿媳他玛说：“你先回去你父家守寡，等到我的第三个儿子示拉长大，我会让他娶你为妻的。”
他玛就回去父亲家中，犹大心中想：“恐怕示拉也会被诛杀，就像他的两个哥哥一样。”
38:12__After_a_long_time_Judah＇s_wife，_the_daughter_of_Shua，_died。_When_Judah_had_recovered_from_his_grief，_he_went_up_to_Timnah，_to_the_men_who_were_shearing_his_sheep，_and_his_friend_Hirah_the_Adullamite_went_with_him。
过了一些年，犹大的妻子书亚死了，犹大反倒是松了一口气。
安葬妻子后，犹大和他的杜兰人朋友希拉，北上去到亭拿，在那里经营剪羊毛的生意。
38:13__When_Tamar_was_told，_“Your_father-in-law_is_on_his_way_to_Timnah_to_shear_his_sheep，“
有人告诉他玛：“你的公公去了亭拿，在那里做剪羊毛的生意。”
38:14__she_took_off_her_widow＇s_clothes，_covered_herself_with_a_veil_to_disguise_herself，_and_then_sat_down_at_the_entrance_to_Enaim，_which_is_on_the_road_to_Timnah。_For_she_saw_that，_though_Shelah_had_now_grown_up，_she_had_not_been_given_to_him_as_his_wife。
这时，犹大的第三个儿子示拉，已经长大成人，却一直没有迎娶他玛。
他玛脱去守寡的服装，用纱巾遮挡着脸容，去到通往亭拿的伊拿印城门前，坐在路边。
38:15__When_Judah_saw_her，_he_thought_she_was_a_prostitute，_for_she_had_covered_her_face。
犹大看到了她，以为她是一个娼妓。
因为他玛用纱巾遮挡着脸容，打扮得跟娼妓一模一样。
38:16__Not_realizing_that_she_was_his_daughter-in-law，_he_went_over_to_her_by_the_roadside_and_said，_“Come_now，_let_me_sleep_with_you。“_“And_what_will_you_give_me_to_sleep_with_you?“_she_asked。
犹大并不知道这个女子是他的儿媳，就走了过去，对她说：“你跟我来，我要和你睡觉。”
他玛说：“你支付什么给我？”
38:17__“I＇ll_send_you_a_young_goat_from_my_flock，“_he_said。_“Will_you_give_me_something_as_a_pledge_until_you_send_it?“_she_asked。
犹大说：“我会让人从我的羊群中，取一只山羊羔送给你。”
他玛说：“我需要你留下一些信物，山羊羔送来后，你可以换回你的信物。”
38:18__He_said，_“What_pledge_should_I_give_you?“_“Your_seal_and_its_cord，_and_the_staff_in_your_hand，“_she_answered。_So_he_gave_them_to_her_and_slept_with_her，_and_she_became_pregnant_by_him。
犹大说：“你需要什么信物？”
他玛说：“你的印章和绑印章的带子，还有你的手杖。”
犹大就把信物给了她，然后和她同床睡觉，他玛因此怀了孕。
38:19__After_she_left，_she_took_off_her_veil_and_put_on_her_widow＇s_clothes_again。
事后，他玛回到家中，脱去面纱，依旧穿上守寡的服装。
38:20__Meanwhile_Judah_sent_the_young_goat_by_his_friend_the_Adullamite_in_order_to_get_his_pledge_back_from_the_woman，_but_he_did_not_find_her。
第二天，犹大让他的亚杜兰人朋友带着一只山羊羔，去娼妓那里换回自己的信物。
然而，亚杜兰人却找不到犹大所说的娼妓。
38:21__He_asked_the_men_who_lived_there，_“Where_is_the_shrine_prostitute_who_was_beside_the_road_at_Enaim?“_“There_hasn＇t_been_any_shrine_prostitute_here，“_they_said。
亚杜兰人问当地的居民：“那个在伊拿印城门前做生意的娼妓，住在什么地方？”
当地人说：“我们这里从来都没有娼妓。”
38:22__So_he_went_back_to_Judah_and_said，_“I_didn＇t_find_her。_Besides，_the_men_who_lived_there_said，_＇There_hasn＇t_been_any_shrine_prostitute_here。＇“
亚杜兰人回去对犹大说：“我找不着你所说的娼妓，而且当地人也说了，那里从来都没有娼妓。”
38:23__Then_Judah_said，_“Let_her_keep_what_she_has，_or_we_will_become_a_laughingstock。_After_all，_I_did_send_her_this_young_goat，_but_you_didn＇t_find_her。“
犹大说：“那就算了，让她保留着我的信物吧。”
“如果再去找，说不定就会被人耻笑。反正我已经守信的把山羊羔送过去了，只是你没有找到她而已。”
38:24__About_three_months_later_Judah_was_told，_“Your_daughter-in-law_Tamar_is_guilty_of_prostitution，_and_as_a_result_she_is_now_pregnant。“_Judah_said，_“Bring_her_out_and_have_her_burned_to_death!“
过了三个月，有人告诉犹大：“你的儿媳他玛，不守妇道，如今已经怀了身孕。”
犹大说：“你们把她拉出去，当众烧死。”
38:25__As_she_was_being_brought_out，_she_sent_a_message_to_her_father-in-law。_“I_am_pregnant_by_the_man_who_owns_these，“_she_said。_And_she_added，_“See_if_you_recognize_whose_seal_and_cord_and_staff_these_are。“
他玛被人拉了出去，然而她早就作了安排。
她让人带着信物去见犹大，并说：“就是这些东西的主人让我怀孕的。你仔细的看一看，这个印章和绑印章的带子、还有这个手杖，是属于谁的？”
38:26__Judah_recognized_them_and_said，_“She_is_more_righteous_than_I，_since_I_wouldn＇t_give_her_to_my_son_Shelah。“_And_he_did_not_sleep_with_her_again。
犹大认出自己的信物，就说：“这个事情是我理亏，我没有让我儿子示拉娶她为妻子。”
此后，犹大再也没有跟他玛同床睡觉。
38:27__When_the_time_came_for_her_to_give_birth，_there_were_twin_boys_in_her_womb。
他玛到了临产的时间，她腹中怀着的，是一对双胞胎。
38:28__As_she_was_giving_birth，_one_of_them_put_out_his_hand;_so_the_midwife_took_a_scarlet_thread_and_tied_it_on_his_wrist_and_said，_“This_one_came_out_first。“
他玛分娩时，一只小手从产门伸了出去。
收生妇人把一条红线绑在小手腕上，说：“这个是先生出来的。”
38:29__But_when_he_drew_back_his_hand，_his_brother_came_out，_and_she_said，_“So_this_is_how_you_have_broken_out!“_And_he_was_named_Perez。
然而，那只小手又缩了回去，另一个婴儿却是先生了出来，收生妇人说：“你怎么抢着出来了！”
这个婴儿因此取名为法勒斯（希伯来语：抢着出来的）。
38:30__Then_his_brother，_who_had_the_scarlet_thread_on_his_wrist，_came_out_and_he_was_given_the_name_Zerah。
跟着，手腕上绑着红线的弟弟也出生了，他被取名为谢拉（希伯来语：红色）。
