37:1___Jacob_lived_in_the_land_where_his_father_had_stayed，_the_land_of_Canaan。
以色列生活在迦南地区，也就是他父亲生前寄居的地方。
37:2___This_is_the_account_of_Jacob。_Joseph，_a_young_man_of_seventeen，_was_tending_the_flocks_with_his_brothers，_the_sons_of_Bilhah_and_the_sons_of_Zilpah，_his_father＇s_wives，_and_he_brought_their_father_a_bad_report_about_them。
以下记录了以色列的一些家事。
约瑟十七岁时，跟哥哥们一起放牧羊群。
跟他放牧羊群的，是雅各的两个伺妾辟拉和悉帕的儿子，约瑟常常把他们的一些恶行告诉父亲。
37:3___Now_Israel_loved_Joseph_more_than_any_of_his_other_sons，_because_he_had_been_born_to_him_in_his_old_age;_and_he_made_a_richly_ornamented_robe_for_him。
约瑟是以色列晚年所生的儿子，以色列对他的宠爱，远超任何一个儿子。
以色列为他缝制了一件彩色的长袍。
37:4___When_his_brothers_saw_that_their_father_loved_him_more_than_any_of_them，_they_hated_him_and_could_not_speak_a_kind_word_to_him。
约瑟的哥哥们非常妒忌他，时常对他冷嘲热讽。
37:5___Joseph_had_a_dream，_and_when_he_told_it_to_his_brothers，_they_hated_him_all_the_more。
一天，约瑟做了一个梦。
约瑟把这个梦告诉他的哥哥们，他们越发忌恨约瑟了。
37:6___He_said_to_them，_“Listen_to_this_dream_I_had:
约瑟是这样说的，“我做了一个这样的梦：”
37:7___We_were_binding_sheaves_of_grain_out_in_the_field_when_suddenly_my_sheaf_rose_and_stood_upright，_while_your_sheaves_gathered_around_mine_and_bowed_down_to_it。“
“我在田间捆绑小麦的时候，我绑好的那捆小麦，忽然站立起来，你们绑的小麦捆，都围住它跪拜。”
37:8___His_brothers_said_to_him，_“Do_you_intend_to_reign_over_us?_Will_you_actually_rule_us?“_And_they_hated_him_all_the_more_because_of_his_dream_and_what_he_had_said。
约瑟的哥哥们说：“你这样说，莫非是想凌驾在我们上头，统治和支配我们？”
此事后，一众哥哥都很憎恶约瑟。
37:9___Then_he_had_another_dream，_and_he_told_it_to_his_brothers。_“Listen，“_he_said，_“I_had_another_dream，_and_this_time_the_sun_and_moon_and_eleven_stars_were_bowing_down_to_me。“
后来，约瑟又做了一个梦，他跑去对哥哥们说：
“我又做了一个梦，我梦见太阳和月亮、还有十一颗星星，在向我跪拜。”
37:10__When_he_told_his_father_as_well_as_his_brothers，_his_father_rebuked_him_and_said，_“What_is_this_dream_you_had?_Will_your_mother_and_I_and_your_brothers_actually_come_and_bow_down_to_the_ground_before_you?“
以色列听说后，就责备约瑟：“你做的这个梦是什么意思？难道你的父母，还有你的哥哥们，都要向你下跪叩拜吗？”
37:11__His_brothers_were_jealous_of_him，_but_his_father_kept_the_matter_in_mind。
约瑟的哥哥们更加憎恨他了，以色列却是暗暗把约瑟的话记在心里。
37:12__Now_his_brothers_had_gone_to_graze_their_father＇s_flocks_near_Shechem，
一天，约瑟的哥哥们去示剑地区放牧羊群。
37:13__and_Israel_said_to_Joseph，_“As_you_know，_your_brothers_are_grazing_the_flocks_near_Shechem。_Come，_I_am_going_to_send_you_to_them。“_“Very_well，“_he_replied。
以色列对约瑟说：“你的哥哥们去了示剑地区放牧羊群，你去那里看看情况。”
约瑟说：“我这就去。”
37:14__So_he_said_to_him，_“Go_and_see_if_all_is_well_with_your_brothers_and_with_the_flocks，_and_bring_word_back_to_me。“_Then_he_sent_him_off_from_the_Valley_of_Hebron。_When_Joseph_arrived_at_Shechem，
以色列说：“你去看看哥哥们和他们放牧的羊群，是否平安，然后回来告诉我。”
约瑟穿过了希伯仑山谷，去到了示剑。
37:15__a_man_found_him_wandering_around_in_the_fields_and_asked_him，_“What_are_you_looking_for?“
约瑟在野外乱走的时候，一个路人问他：“你在找什么？”
37:16__He_replied，_“I＇m_looking_for_my_brothers。_Can_you_tell_me_where_they_are_grazing_their_flocks?“
约瑟说：“我在寻找我的哥哥们，你知道他们在什么地方放牧羊群吗？”
37:17__“They_have_moved_on_from_here，“_the_man_answered。_“I_heard_them_say，_＇Let＇s_go_to_Dothan。＇“_So_Joseph_went_after_his_brothers_and_found_them_near_Dothan。
那人说：“他们已经离开了这里，我听说他们要去多坍。”
约瑟就去多坍，找到他的一众哥哥。
37:18__But_they_saw_him_in_the_distance，_and_before_he_reached_them，_they_plotted_to_kill_him。
约瑟的一众哥哥远远看到他，就合谋要害死他。
37:19__“Here_comes_that_dreamer!“_they_said_to_each_other。
他们彼此说：“那个爱做梦的小子来找我们了！”
37:20__“Come_now，_let＇s_kill_him_and_throw_him_into_one_of_these_cisterns_and_say_that_a_ferocious_animal_devoured_him。_Then_we＇ll_see_what_comes_of_his_dreams。“
“我们不如杀了他，把尸体丢进到这口井里，回去就说他被野兽吃掉了，看他怎么实现他的梦。”
37:21__When_Reuben_heard_this，_he_tried_to_rescue_him_from_their_hands。_“Let＇s_not_take_his_life，“_he_said。
流便听到他们这样说，就阻止他们：“我们不能伤害他的性命。”
37:22__“Don＇t_shed_any_blood。_Throw_him_into_this_cistern_here_in_the_desert，_but_don＇t_lay_a_hand_on_him。“_Reuben_said_this_to_rescue_him_from_them_and_take_him_back_to_his_father。
“我们不能让他流血。我们把他丢进这口井，任由他饿死渴死就行了，万万不可亲自下毒手。”
流便这样说，其实是想暗中拯救约瑟，把他带回到父亲那里。
37:23__So_when_Joseph_came_to_his_brothers，_they_stripped_him_of_his_robe--the_richly_ornamented_robe_he_was_wearing--
约瑟来到一众哥哥身前，他们就捉住约瑟，扒掉他的彩色长袍，
37:24__and_they_took_him_and_threw_him_into_the_cistern。_Now_the_cistern_was_empty;_there_was_no_water_in_it。
约瑟被他们扔进井里。
那口是枯井，里面并没有水。
37:25__As_they_sat_down_to_eat_their_meal，_they_looked_up_and_saw_a_caravan_of_Ishmaelites_coming_from_Gilead。_Their_camels_were_loaded_with_spices，_balm_and_myrrh，_and_they_were_on_their_way_to_take_them_down_to_Egypt。
约瑟的一众哥哥坐下来吃饭，这时，他们看到了一队从基列来的商队。
这是一支由以实玛利人组成的米甸商队，他们的骆驼上驮着香料、乳香、没药，正要南下埃及做买卖。
37:26__Judah_said_to_his_brothers，_“What_will_we_gain_if_we_kill_our_brother_and_cover_up_his_blood?
犹大对一众兄弟说：“我们若是杀害了弟弟，我们不但要掩饰这种罪行，而且我们什么也得不到。”
37:27__Come，_let＇s_sell_him_to_the_Ishmaelites_and_not_lay_our_hands_on_him;_after_all，_he_is_our_brother，_our_own_flesh_and_blood。“_His_brothers_agreed。
“我们不如把他卖给这些以实玛利人，这样一来，我们手上就不用沾染鲜血。毕竟，他也是我们的骨血之亲。”
一众兄弟都赞同他的建议。
37:28__So_when_the_Midianite_merchants_came_by，_his_brothers_pulled_Joseph_up_out_of_the_cistern_and_sold_him_for_twenty_shekels_of_silver_to_the_Ishmaelites，_who_took_him_to_Egypt。
当那支米甸商队来到近处，他们把约瑟从井里拉了上来，作价二十舍客勒银子，卖给了那些以实玛利人。
约瑟就这样被带去了埃及。
37:29__When_Reuben_returned_to_the_cistern_and_saw_that_Joseph_was_not_there，_he_tore_his_clothes。
流便当时不在场，当他回来后，约瑟已经不在井里了。
流便悲愤得撕破了自己的衣服。
（注：撕裂衣服，是希伯来人表示极度悲伤的方式，也有表示悔改之意。）
37:30__He_went_back_to_his_brothers_and_said，_“The_boy_isn＇t_there!_Where_can_I_turn_now?“
他对一众兄弟说：“孩子不见了！我们该怎么办？”
37:31__Then_they_got_Joseph＇s_robe，_slaughtered_a_goat_and_dipped_the_robe_in_the_blood。
约瑟的一众哥哥宰杀了一只公山羊，把鲜血染在约瑟的彩衣上。
37:32__They_took_the_ornamented_robe_back_to_their_father_and_said，_“We_found_this。_Examine_it_to_see_whether_it_is_your_son＇s_robe。“
他们带着彩衣返回家中，对父亲说：“我们在野外找到这件衣服，你看是不是约瑟的？”
37:33__He_recognized_it_and_said，_“It_is_my_son＇s_robe!_Some_ferocious_animal_has_devoured_him。_Joseph_has_surely_been_torn_to_pieces。“
以色列认得那件彩衣，说：“这是约瑟的彩衣，约瑟一定是被野兽吃掉了！”
“我的约瑟被野兽吃掉了，我的约瑟被野兽撕成碎片了啊！”
37:34__Then_Jacob_tore_his_clothes，_put_on_sackcloth_and_mourned_for_his_son_many_days。
以色列悲痛的撕裂了自己的衣服，披上麻布，为他的儿子哀悼了一段很长的时间。
37:35__All_his_sons_and_daughters_came_to_comfort_him，_but_he_refused_to_be_comforted。_“No，“_he_said，_“in_mourning_will_I_go_down_to_the_grave_to_my_son。“_So_his_father_wept_for_him。
其他的子女纷纷来安慰他，以色列只是不听。
他哭泣着说：“我要伤心至死，我要下到坟墓去陪伴我的儿子。”
37:36__Meanwhile，_the_Midianites_sold_Joseph_in_Egypt_to_Potiphar，_one_of_Pharaoh＇s_officials，_the_captain_of_the_guard。
这个时候，约瑟被那些米甸商人带到埃及，卖给了波提乏。
波提乏是埃及法老的侍卫长。
